NIGHT DRIVING SIMULATOR (NDS)

As part of a comprehensive Functional Vision Test Battery, which also includes sine-wave contrast sensitivity testing, VSRC offers night driving simulation testing. The Night Driving Simulator (NDS) is an intensive test battery, developed under FDA protocol guidelines, which tests functional vision in a number of driving settings and conditions. With the patient seated in a sectioned car, their ability to detect and identify projected targets in various visibility conditions, such as fog (decreased visibility) and glare (simulates oncoming headlights or lights reflected in rearview mirrors) is assessed. The patient is tested in both a rural and city nighttime setting traveling at various speeds. Target types include text road signs, warning signs and pedestrians. (In references, see: Ginsburg AP, et al. Functional vision testing: night driving simulator studies.)
