Nuclear Sclerotic Cataract This nuclear sclerotic cataract patient is a 76-year-old music teacher whose chief complaint is incapacitating glare which made it impossible for her to drive at night. This patient's Snellen acuity was fairly good at 20/40, but she had a greater than 89% loss in contrast sensitivity, which would significantly impact her functional vision performance.

When graphed, this patient's functional vision curves under day and night time conditions, with and without glare, look like this:
