Cortical Cataract This cortical cataract was found in a 60-year-old seamstress whose chief compliant is that she cannot sew due to glare. Her Snellen acuity was a fairly good 20/50, but she had experienced a 89% loss in contrast sensitivity. This case demonstrates the discrepancies which can occur between a patient's Snellen acuity and functional vision measurements.

When graphed, this patient's functional vision curves under day and night time conditions, with and without glare, look like this:
