Sine-wave Grating Testing with Pre- and Post-op Cataract Patients The graph and picture analysis below shows pre- and post-op contrast sensitivity for a cataract patient. The bottom contrast sensitivity curve in the graph shows contrast lower than 90% of the population. The upper contrast sensitivity curve in the graph was measured two months after cataract surgery and falls within the shaded normal population region. The pictures on the right, created from the contrast sensitivity data of this patient, show how a street scene would appear to this patient pre- and post-op so that others may have a better understanding of the patient's deficit and progress after surgery. (In references, see: Ginsburg A, et al. Effects of flurbiprofen and indomethacin on acute cystoid macular edema after cataract surgery: Functional vision and contrast sensitivity.)
